How embarrassment can be a teacher

Updated: Jan 2, 2023

Is there anything that you can learn from embarrassment? Of course, I believe so.

Sure embarrassment is uncomfortable, but it doesn't have to cripple you.

- You can use experiences to show you where you have self awareness (what about the situation is embarrassing? more importantly why?) you can use this to see where to become more self aware

- You can use embarrassing situations as an opportunity to embrace yourself, flaws and all, and realize that in the grand scheme of things, this is just a tiny little moment that will fade away. Everyone gets embarrassed sometimes, but it doesn't have to send you into a spiral of self-deprication . . .

Perhaps embarrassment is inevitable. Sometimes we’re embarrassed for doing something clumsy or making a mistake. Sometimes we fall, or fail. Sometimes we’re embarrassed by others’ actions & how those may directly or indirectly affect us. And sometimes we’re embarrassed for no good reason.

However, I think we can learn a lot in those moments when we are embarrassed. For instance, what part of ourselves have we rejected that makes us uncomfortable with the present moment? What part of us feels embarrassed? Is it rational or logical? (This question just helps to frame the situation and ground us)

Although no one *wants* to be embarrassed, maybe it’s not all bad. Maybe, just maybe, embarrassment is an opportunity to come home to ourselves and accept ourselves wholly, REGARDLESS of the outside world. Embarrassment can be a learning opportunity, and it shows your humanity. It's all a part of the beautiful, messy human experience.

No matter how things look or what people may say, you can still be fully present with yourself. Pick your head up, give yourself a hug, take some deep breaths & remind yourself that it’s all gonna be okay. Everything is unfolding for your highest good.

You’re beautiful inside and out, and everyone makes mistakes sometimes. It doesn’t mean that you’re a bad person or not worthy. In fact, it means that you’re putting yourself out there and living life! You should be proud of yourself, open up to life & let it be your teacher.

It’s all gonna be great, it’s all coming together for you. 💚
