Ephesians 4:31–32
"Get rid of all bitterness, rage and anger, brawling and slander, along with every form of malice. Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you."
Hebrews 12:14–15
"Make every effort to live in peace with everyone and to be holy... See to it that no one falls short of the grace of God and that no bitter root grows up to cause trouble and defile many."
The Bible clearly calls us to not be bitter. What do we do instead? We're called to be sweet, we're called to show unconditional love. We're called to be meek to fellow believers like Jesus was.
Ephesians 4:1–2
"I urge you to live a life worthy of the calling you have received. Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love."
I was recently in prayer talking to The Lord about this. Saying God how do I keep myself from bitterness, how do I keep myself sweet. Staying sweet is the goal. It's of the utmost importance. God gave me this Scripture a little while after I prayed:
Psalm 119:103 (NIV)
"How sweet are your words to my taste, sweeter than honey to my mouth!"
What God was showing me with this was to stay in His Word, and by being saturated in His Word, I will stay sweet.
And then He gave me this verse today:
Proverbs 16:24 (NIV)
"Gracious words are a honeycomb, sweet to the soul and healing to the bones."
Speak these Scriptures over yourself, write them on post-its, hold them close to your heart. Let God mold your heart. He loves you so much.
